Wood graining is the art of simulating natural wood, by using paint applied over any surface, and uses a combination of different techniques.
Historically wood graining was used as a means to reproduce rare and exotic woods, and as with today this is a less costly alternative to the real thing.
The main techniques incorporated in wood graining finished are Dragging, the controlled use of brush marks to simulate a long grain, Flogging to simulate the pores in cut hardwoods, Stippling and Softening to create a subtle finish. |
