Stand alone plaster finishes go back to classical times. Surviving remnants -as at Pompeii-reveal how lengthy and skillful the process was, as many as 12 coats were not unusual.
Happily most contemporary versions require only two or three applications.
Marmarino (Lusterstone) - this is a mixture of tinted lime plaster, which is applied with a trowel in layers, and is smoothed to create an aged limestone marble finish with a distressed surface.
Stucco lustro (Venetian plaster) - this is similar to marmarino but will burnish and polish with application to create a smooth shiny finish like polished marble. |
